"That which is placed on the altar is altered.” - Marianne Williamson
Creating an altar is a way to work with a specific intention in mind. It gives you a place to come to, connect with and create an intentional relationship with that which is within you. An altar is a place we visit each day (or as often as we need) to create ritual - to bring presence into our life. To build your connection with what is sacred to you. It could be a prayer, a loved one, a guru or some deep inner work you are intending in your life. It is a place for your heart to rest and your ears to listen. Your altar is an outer representation of your inner atunement. It grows as you do. Your altar will move and morph as your intentions build but what changes is the energy behind it.
The more you sit, bring it gifts (a flower, a written word, a lit candle - your own wonderful heart), the bigger the energy that builds and therefore ripples out into the universe to create your sacred intention. Creating a altar is super easy and does not need to be complex, here are a few tips and tricks I use to get your started:
Find a place that feels right to YOU.
Bring your favourite objects - it could be a bell, a photo, candles, incense, crystals - your intention written all out neatly and placed on your altar for clarity - anything that speaks to you on 'why' you are creating this space;
Arrange your items in a way that is pleasing to you ie. feels right;
Be present, speak to your space you are creating. Smudge and speak to it as you begin;
Draw from any deck you use, what guidance is needed for your intention to be realised. Place it on your altar.
My favourite: every time you visit your altar - light a candle - but as you do speak your intention/prayer for your altar for EVERY candle you light.
Creating an altar is a place that is specifically created for you, by you - a place to BE, a way to connect and always find your way.
With all my heart, Amanda
